Richardson<\/p>\n<p><em>As Jesus walks toward his crucifixion, a group of women follow after him, wailing in their grief. \u201cDaughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me,<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em><em> he says to them, <\/em><em>\u201c<\/em><em>but weep for yourselves and for your children. For the days are surely coming when they will  say, \u2018Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the  breasts that never nursed.\u2019 Then they will begin to say to the mountains, \u2018Fall on us\u2019; and to the hills, \u2018Cover us.\u2019 For if they do this when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Text<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.oremus.org\/?ql=170349249\" target=\"_blank\">Luke 23:26-31<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The Daughters&#8217; Reply<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We weep<br \/>\nthat we may have<br \/>\nthe strength to live.<br \/>\nWe wail<br \/>\nthat we may have<br \/>\nthe power to speak<br \/>\nof these things<br \/>\nin the times to be.<\/p>\n<p>Let not the days come<br \/>\nwhen we will mourn<br \/>\nfor having given life<br \/>\nfor having birthed<br \/>\nfor having hoped.<\/p>\n<p>Let not the days come<br \/>\nwhen we bid<br \/>\nthe mountains fall<br \/>\nor the hills<br \/>\nto cover us.<\/p>\n<p>Bid them, rather, to dance<br \/>\nfor having loved so well.<br \/>\nBid them, rather, to fly<br \/>\nfor having dreamed so long.<\/p>\n<p><em>From <strong>Sacred Journeys<\/strong> \u00a9 Jan L.
